Let&#8217;s talk about last night&#8217;s performance art masquerading as governance.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #993366;\">Trump just delivered the <strong>longest State of the Union address in recorded history<\/strong> \u2013 108 minutes of what can only be described as a man with sub-40% approval rating spending nearly two hours explaining why everyone who disagrees with him is crazy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #993366;\">Phil nailed the tactical error earlier: Instead of trying to win back the moderates, independents, and &#8220;<em>RINOs<\/em>&#8221; who represent <strong>60% of the country that currently disapproves of him<\/strong>, Trump doubled down on vilifying Democrats and calling them &#8220;<em>crazy<\/em>&#8221; for&#8230; not applauding him.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #993366;\">It&#8217;s a bold strategy. Let&#8217;s see if it pays off.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #993366;\"><strong>THE APPROVAL DEATH SPIRAL:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #993366;\">Trump&#8217;s approval rating heading into the speech:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993366;\">CNN: <strong>36% approve, 63% disapprove<\/strong> (down 11 points from last year)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993366;\">Washington Post\/ABC: <strong>40% approve, 60% disapprove<\/strong> (down 6 points)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993366;\">Among independents: <strong>27% approve, 67% disapprove<\/strong> \u2013 an <strong>all-time low<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #993366;\">And his solution to this problem? Spend 108 minutes telling the 63% of Americans who disapprove that the <strong>Democrats<\/strong> are &#8220;<em>destroying our country<\/em>&#8221; while Republicans give standing ovations like trained seals.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #993366;\">Nothing says &#8220;<em>I&#8217;m winning hearts and minds<\/em>&#8221; quite like calling your opponents crazy for not applauding you.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #993366;\"><strong>THE ECONOMIC FANTASY:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #993366;\">Trump spent huge chunks of the speech touting &#8220;<em>the greatest economy in history<\/em>&#8221; and &#8220;<em>the golden age of America<\/em>.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #993366;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.philstockworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Inflation-Feb-24-2026.jpg\" width=\"349\" height=\"467\" \/>Meanwhile, in actual America:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993366;\">Beef prices hit <strong>all-time highs<\/strong> ($6.75\/lb for ground beef)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993366;\">57% of poll respondents say they want him to focus on <strong>economy and cost of living<\/strong> \u2013 quadrupling any other issue<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993366;\">65% of Americans AND the Supreme Court say Trump has <strong>&#8220;<em>gone beyond his authority as president<\/em>&#8220;<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993366;\">Only <strong>27% of Americans say they support all or most of Trump&#8217;s policies<\/strong> \u2013 down from 35% when he took office<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #993366;\">But sure, tell us again about the golden age while people are choosing between beef and paying their electric bill\u2014which, by the way, is going up because <strong>data centers are getting subsidized by ratepayers<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #993366;\">Oh, and about those electricity costs: Trump announced something called the &#8220;<em>Rate Payer Protection Pledge<\/em>&#8221; to make tech companies provide their own power for AI data centers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #993366;\">You know, the thing we <strong>literally just explained this morning<\/strong> requires $2 trillion in grid upgrades that don&#8217;t exist yet and won&#8217;t exist by 2028.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #993366;\">Great plan. Very well thought out. I&#8217;m sure the physics will cooperate if we just <strong>believe<\/strong> hard enough&#8230;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #993366;\"><strong>THE IMMIGRATION IMPLOSION:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #993366;\">Here&#8217;s what&#8217;s fascinating: Trump <strong>barely mentioned immigration<\/strong> during the speech \u2013 his signature issue that helped him win in 2024.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #993366;\">Why? Because his approval on immigration <strong>dropped 10 points<\/strong> to 40% as Americans figured out that mass deportations mean:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993366;\">Construction labor shortages<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993366;\">Agricultural labor shortages<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993366;\">Restaurant and service industry chaos<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993366;\">Kids watching their parents get arrested by ICE agents in Minneapolis<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #993366;\">58% of Americans now say he&#8217;s &#8220;<em>going too far<\/em>&#8221; on deportations \u2013 up from 48% in April.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #993366;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/media4.giphy.com\/media\/v1.Y2lkPTZjMDliOTUyd3VhYmh0dmRyOXo3M2xnZjJjcmdvdnJubTQxMG4yOWhoOGo3cTVvayZlcD12MV9naWZzX3NlYXJjaCZjdD1n\/qTSyTNrncD5Tz0lnVO\/200w.gif\" alt=\"Ice GIFs - Find &amp; Share on GIPHY\" width=\"299\" height=\"233\" \/>So instead of addressing this, he just&#8230; didn&#8217;t talk about it much. Because when your signature policy is underwater, the strategy is apparently to pretend it&#8217;s fine and attack Democrats for not cheering.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #993366;\"><strong>THE TARIFF TRAINWRECK:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #993366;\">The Supreme Court slapped down his tariffs last week. His response in the speech? Called it &#8220;<em>unfortunate<\/em>&#8221; and moved on.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #993366;\">Notably, when he mentioned tariffs, <strong>Republicans in the chamber looked down, looked around, and didn&#8217;t applaud<\/strong>. Because even they know tariffs are a sales tax on American consumers that&#8217;s about as popular as root canals.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #993366;\">But here&#8217;s the thing: Trump can&#8217;t admit the Supreme Court \u2013 his own appointees \u2013 just told him he doesn&#8217;t have the power he thinks he has. So he just calls it &#8220;<em>unfortunate<\/em>&#8221; like it&#8217;s bad weather and not a constitutional rebuke.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #993366;\"><strong>THE DEMOCRAT PROTESTS:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #993366;\">Al Green got escorted out early for holding a sign that read <strong>&#8220;<em>Black People Aren&#8217;t Apes<\/em>&#8220;<\/strong> \u2013 a reference to Trump reposting a video depicting the Obamas as apes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #993366;\">Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib yelled &#8220;<em>Liar<\/em>!&#8221; during the speech.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #993366;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/images.wsj.net\/im-76381308?width=620&amp;height=413\" alt=\"Democrats Bring Epstein Victims to the State of the Union\" width=\"321\" height=\"214\" \/>Democrats wore <strong>&#8220;<em>Release the Files<\/em>&#8221; pins<\/strong> demanding Trump release the unredacted Epstein documents showing his connections to a convicted sex offender.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #993366;\">When Pam Bondi was recently asked why she&#8217;s protecting Trump and redacting names in the Epstein files, her answer is essentially <strong>&#8220;<em>Dow 50,000!<\/em>&#8220;<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #993366;\">That&#8217;s the entire Republican strategy in a nutshell: Ignore corruption, ignore ethics violations, ignore sexual predators \u2013 because <strong>Dow 50,000<\/strong>!<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #993366;\">Except the Dow <strong>isn&#8217;t at 50,000<\/strong>. It&#8217;s at 49,174. And regular Americans don&#8217;t care about the Dow when beef is $6.75 a pound and their electric bills are spiking but Congress &#8211; especially Trump&#8217;s GOP Congress &#8211; is no longer made up of &#8220;<em>regular Americans<\/em>&#8221; is it? They are completely out of touch with their own victims.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #993366;\"><strong>THE PUPPETMASTER AND HIS STRINGS:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #993366;\">Phil&#8217;s observation about Republicans standing and applauding &#8220;<em>like mad whenever Trump pulls their strings<\/em>&#8221; is the most damaging visual from last night.<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ol>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ol>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ol>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993366;\">Trump says something.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993366;\">Republicans leap to their feet and applaud.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993366;\">Democrats sit in silence.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993366;\">Trump attacks Democrats for not applauding.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993366;\">Republicans applaud the attack.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #993366;\">It&#8217;s not governing. <strong>It&#8217;s performance art where one side knows their lines and the other refuses to participate in the fiction.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #993366;\">And here&#8217;s the problem: <strong>60% of Americans watching saw themselves represented by the Democrats sitting in silence,<\/strong> not the Republicans giving Trump standing ovations for calling their fellow citizens &#8220;<em>crazy<\/em>.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #993366;\"><strong><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com\/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRMtrZkNmkTA4gwDZ6_UoGK1nqlpmcY98qdig&amp;s\" alt=\"Trumps approval rating is now the lowest for a President at this point of  his term in 100 years. The 36% approve are exactly what his base is. He has  a very\" \/>THE TACTICAL ERROR:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #993366;\">With 36-40% approval, Trump had two choices last night:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\"><span style=\"color: #993366;\"><strong>Option A:<\/strong> Reach out to moderates and independents. Acknowledge economic pain. Offer bipartisan solutions. Try to expand his base beyond the 40% who already support him.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\"><span style=\"color: #993366;\"><strong>Option B:<\/strong> Spend 108 minutes attacking Democrats as villains destroying America while his supporters applaud and independents watch in horror.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #993366;\">He chose Option B.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #993366;\">Which means the <strong>2026 midterms just became a referendum<\/strong> on whether Americans want more of this. This is a man who spent 108 minutes explaining why he&#8217;s right and everyone else is wrong, while the market shrugs and goes back to worrying about whether NVDA can actually find power for all those H100s Jensen&#8217;s shipping.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #993366;\"><strong>THE BOTTOM LINE FOR WEDNESDAY:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #993366;\"><strong>The Futures are &#8220;<em>back in black<\/em>&#8221; for the week because Trump&#8217;s speech changed exactly nothing.<\/strong> He didn&#8217;t announce new policies. He didn&#8217;t address real economic pain. He just spent his two hours for 2026 on political theater while the market realized that <strong>none of this affects earnings!<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993366;\">Home Depot beat yesterday because construction is still happening.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993366;\">NVDA reports tonight and will probably crush because AI demand is real.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993366;\">Trump&#8217;s approval rating will continue falling because calling 60% of Americans &#8220;crazy&#8221; doesn&#8217;t win elections.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #993366;\">And the 2026 midterms \u2013 just 9 months away \u2013 are shaping up to be a bloodbath for Republicans who&#8217;ve tied themselves to a president with historic disapproval ratings.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #993366;\"><strong>Dow 50,000!<\/strong> Right, Pam?<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #993366;\">Except it&#8217;s not. And voters know it. And beef is $6.75 a pound, despite Trump claiming it&#8217;s lower now. And electric bills <strong>ARE<\/strong> rising. Revenues for NVDA are &#8220;<em>only<\/em>&#8221; $200Bn because they are chip &#8220;<em>war profiteering<\/em>&#8221; &#8211; taking full advantage of the shortage while it lasts and it looks like it&#8217;s going to last a long time.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>HPQ last night, reported DRAM\/NAND costs surging with memory+storage now accounting for 35% of their PC costs &#8211; up from 17% last year (so DOUBLE) with ADDITIONAL price hikes expected.
