A future administration or even a Congressional backlash could squeeze private detention again; we\u2019ve already seen whiplash from Obama \u2192 Trump 1 \u2192 Biden \u2192 Trump 2.0.[<a href=\"https:\/\/carnegieendowment.org\/emissary\/2025\/02\/trump-executive-order-treaties-organizations?lang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">carnegieendowment<\/a>]\u200b<\/li>\n<li>Legal\/PR risk: GEO has paid out on labor and detainee abuse cases and is under constant activist and litigation pressure; a serious scandal (death, abuse, data\u2011misuse in BI\u2019s tracking) can hit contracts and multiple fast.[<a href=\"https:\/\/jerseyvindicator.org\/2026\/01\/14\/ice-taps-geo-group-subsidiary-to-track-immigrants-in-121-million-deal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">jerseyvindicator<\/a>]\u200b<\/li>\n<li>Financing risk: this is a leveraged REIT\u2011style balance sheet in a world of higher rates; if policy ever turns against them while they\u2019re still loaded with debt, the equity can get wrecked.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>How I\u2019d frame it to Members<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>Yes, at ~14x forward earnings with growing ICE\/detention\/tracking contracts, GEO is <em>technically<\/em> a candidate for a buy\u2011write \/ put\u2011write income play in a defined range.[<a href=\"https:\/\/www.spglobal.com\/ratings\/en\/regulatory\/article\/-\/view\/sourceId\/101612827\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">spglobal<\/a>]\u200b<\/li>\n<li>But it\u2019s also a direct monetization of Trump\u2019s mass\u2011detention agenda. You\u2019d want to:<\/li>\n<li class=\"ql-indent-1\">keep position size modest,<\/li>\n<li class=\"ql-indent-1\">stay short\u2011dated on options so you can respond to policy headlines,<\/li>\n<li class=\"ql-indent-1\">and be very clear with yourself (and Members) that this is <strong>not<\/strong> a widows\u2011and\u2011orphans stock\u2014this is trading the machinery of the crackdown.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>If you\u2019re comfortable separating the ethics from the trade, the numbers support your thesis.
