What a month it has been (again)!<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Last month I reiterated &#8220;<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.philstockworld.com\/2025\/04\/15\/philstockworld-april-portfolio-review-members-only-4\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Thank God for hedges<\/a><\/em>&#8221; as the S&amp;P 500 had bounced back to over our Strong Bounce Line at 5,400 &#8211; from all the way back at 5,000 <\/strong>(ignoring the spike below)<strong>, which was the exact bottom of our predicted range.\u00a0 Our first round of buying <\/strong>(March 24th)<strong> had not gone well but we were far more confident on April 15th and we deployed a lot of our sidelined CASH!!! into first improving our existing positions and then adding dozens of new positions in what has turned out <\/strong>(so far)<strong> to be a PERFECT PIVOT!\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-12819716\" src=\"https:\/\/www.philstockworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/SPX-May-13-2025.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"990\" height=\"744\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.philstockworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/SPX-May-13-2025.png 990w, https:\/\/www.philstockworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/SPX-May-13-2025-300x225.png 300w, https:\/\/www.philstockworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/SPX-May-13-2025-768x577.png 768w, https:\/\/www.philstockworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/SPX-May-13-2025-150x113.png 150w, https:\/\/www.philstockworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/SPX-May-13-2025-696x523.png 696w, https:\/\/www.philstockworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/SPX-May-13-2025-265x198.png 265w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 990px) 100vw, 990px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Now we&#8217;ve sailed back to 5,844 &#8211; up another 444 (8.2%) from our bottom and we&#8217;re over the Strong Retrace Line (5,800) &#8211; as if the whole sell-off had been just a bad dream. This is, of course, what hedging is all about &#8211; despite the 20% drop in the S&amp;P, we were able to maintain our longs (less the 1\/3 we cut at the Top as a strategy to raise CASH!!!) and then we were able to go shopping while things were on sale BECAUSE we had CASH!!!\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>On April 15th, we were worried that &#8220;<em>With looming Tariffs (90 days), a Stagnant Economy, Inflation and uncertain Corporate Earnings \u2013 I can\u2019t say I\u2019m enthusiastic about getting back to our highs<\/em>&#8221; but we also felt we had proven our lows (5,000) and that plus our ability to hedge (battle-tested) against a 20% drop (which we no longer felt would happen) allowed us to have the confidence to get more bullish &#8211; even with the Political and Economic uncertainty.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Over the past 30 days, we&#8217;ve seen enough earnings reports to be less worried about Corporate Earnings and, at least for 90 days, the Tariffs are off the table (for now) and that SHOULD alleviate the Stagnant Economy, which leaves us with Inflation &#8211; which the Fed seems determined to fight &#8211; <strong>no wonder the market rallied back!<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-12819717\" src=\"https:\/\/www.philstockworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Heat-May-13-2025.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1287\" height=\"716\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.philstockworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Heat-May-13-2025.jpg 1287w, https:\/\/www.philstockworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Heat-May-13-2025-300x167.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.philstockworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Heat-May-13-2025-1024x570.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.philstockworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Heat-May-13-2025-768x427.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.philstockworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Heat-May-13-2025-150x83.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.philstockworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Heat-May-13-2025-696x387.jpg 696w, https:\/\/www.philstockworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Heat-May-13-2025-1068x594.jpg 1068w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1287px) 100vw, 1287px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We had expected tariffs to settle down at 10-20% and, at the moment, we seem to be getting back to that track and that is something the economy (and our beloved Corporate Masters) can absorb over time &#8211; and no reason not to be a long-term investor.\u00a0 Just look at our Magnificent 7 &#8211; who fell 30% on tariff news and have now climbed 25% back in the past month:\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/publish.finviz.com\/051325\/MAGSw074946544i.png\" alt=\"Finviz Chart\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Last month, I said:\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">&#8220;<strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>AAPL, TSLA, AMZN and NVDA have huge tariff issues to navigate while META is testifying before Congress this week on literally Trumped-up charges and GOOG is facing and AI attack on their search business model <\/em><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>(80% of their revenue)<\/em><\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em> while MSFT, who are down 6.5% for the year, have escaped most of the carnage \u2013 so far<\/em>.<\/span><\/strong>&#8220;<\/p>\n<p><strong>And you can see how that played out on the heat map with GOOGL flat-lining and holding back the M7 in much the same way that UNH is holding back the Dow at the moment <\/strong>(-357 points)<strong>. Still we have nothing to complain about &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=LAf0QnLFS7Q\">everything has proceeded as I have foreseen<\/a> and we are all enjoying a good laugh at market follies for the moment.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s take a look at our portfolios and see how well the last month has treated us:\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/charts-node.finviz.com\/chart.ashx?cs=m&amp;t=@VX&amp;tf=d&amp;s=linear&amp;pm=0&amp;am=0&amp;ct=candle_stick&amp;r=\" alt=\"VIX Chart Daily\" \/><strong>Short-Term Portfolio <\/strong>(STP)<strong> Review:<\/strong> $2,674,187 is up $516,085 (23.9%) since our April review as we not only locked in the gains we made on the way down but we hedged our hedges AND the VIX dropped like a rock, now 18.7 and, since we SELL a TREMENDOUS amount of premium in the STP (all those short puts and calls) &#8211; we made a nice chunk of change &#8211; even as the market rose higher (causing even more damage to the short puts and calls).\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>We added 11 short puts for $257,100 since March 24th and, in an up market, that short put money helps to offset losses in our hedges. The STP is still swimming in CASH!!! ($2,479,662) which we can deploy to more hedges if the bounce lines (or the 50-dma break) but, for now, we&#8217;re very comfortable with our hedges:\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-12819718\" src=\"https:\/\/www.philstockworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/STP-May-13-2025.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1397\" height=\"1090\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.philstockworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/STP-May-13-2025.jpg 1397w, https:\/\/www.philstockworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/STP-May-13-2025-300x234.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.philstockworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/STP-May-13-2025-1024x799.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.philstockworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/STP-May-13-2025-768x599.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.philstockworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/STP-May-13-2025-150x117.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.philstockworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/STP-May-13-2025-696x543.jpg 696w, https:\/\/www.philstockworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/STP-May-13-2025-1068x833.jpg 1068w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1397px) 100vw, 1397px\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>Short Puts &#8211; As noted above, we&#8217;ve collected $257,100 (plus TROX was already $14,050) in pure premium and we&#8217;re not worried about any of them at the moment (except for TROX but we&#8217;ll roll it).\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>BBY &#8211; We bought back the short calls and we&#8217;re waiting for earnings on May 29th. The $70 calls were -$58,313 last month and now -$17,625 and, <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">since we can sell the 2027 $85 calls for $9, it would be negligent not to sell 50 of them for $45,000<\/span><\/strong> &#8211; just in case things don&#8217;t go perfectly.\u00a0 That gives us plenty of money to roll our puts and long calls with &#8211; just in case. If BBY blasts higher, we have $90,450 coming to us from the short puts and we can use THAT money to roll the short calls higher.\u00a0 Either way we&#8217;re fine!\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/publish.finviz.com\/051325\/BBYw081657475i.png\" alt=\"Finviz Chart\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>SKX &#8211; SKX is getting bought out and the stock is now at $62 from $49 last month. Our very aggressive position was -$27,550 on April 15th and today we&#8217;re at net $625 and we didn&#8217;t do well on the long calls because they are $50s as all the premium disappeared on the buyout so <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">we&#8217;re just going to close this one out and put our net $57,575 to better use<\/span><\/strong>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/publish.finviz.com\/051325\/SKXw082421815i.png\" alt=\"Finviz Chart\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>SQQQ &#8211; The short 2027 $50s lost half their premium in 3 weeks and there&#8217;s $515,375 worth of gains right there! <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">The short Sept calls also got crushed and, though they are out of range, we may as well buy them back for $35,700<\/span><\/strong> to free up a slot (to sell more on a dip) and that leaves us with just the $2,850,000 spread that&#8217;s $505,400 in the money at net $498,750 but we only expect a 20% drop which would boost SQQQ from $25.32 to $40.50 which would be $1,947,500 on the $20 calls so we&#8217;re calling this <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">$1,448,750 of downside protection<\/span><\/strong>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/publish.finviz.com\/051325\/SQQQd083106484i.png\" alt=\"Finviz Chart\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>TZA &#8211; Getting messy.\u00a0 Our main spread is the 1,000 2027 $15\/25 bull call spread and TZA is at $13.48 x 1.6 is $21.56 so that&#8217;s where we get to on a 20% drop, which would put our $15 $6.56 ($656,000) in the money. The Jan $45 short calls are too far out of the money to worry about and the short Oct $25s are out of range, so also not worried.\u00a0 That leaves us with the short July $18 puts and we&#8217;ll have to roll those but no rush so, surprisingly, nothing to do.\u00a0 The spread is now a net $99,350 credit so I guess we can call it <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">$755,350 of downside protection if we thread that needle<\/span><\/strong>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/publish.finviz.com\/051325\/TZAd084194306i.png\" alt=\"Finviz Chart\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Overall, we have $2,204,100 of downside protection and we just took down $45,000 from our BBY sale and spent a little less than that getting more bearish in SQQQ and we freed up $57,575 from SKX and we have $271,150 coming to us from the short puts if the market keeps going up.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>When you don&#8217;t know which way you&#8217;d like the market to go &#8211; YOU ARE WELL BALANCED!\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>$700\/Month Portfolio Review:<\/strong> What a difference a week makes! <a href=\"https:\/\/www.philstockworld.com\/2025\/05\/06\/how-to-become-a-millionaire-even-in-this-market-by-investing-700-per-month-part-33-360\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Last Tuesday we reviewed the portfolio<\/a> and we were TRILLED to be up 93.5% ($43,350) from 77.3% in April and now, 7 days later, we&#8217;ve popped to $47,119 (up 110.4%), gaining $3,769 (8.6%) for the week &#8211; so nice!\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-12819739 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.philstockworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Compound-May-13-2025.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"322\" height=\"191\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.philstockworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Compound-May-13-2025.jpg 401w, https:\/\/www.philstockworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Compound-May-13-2025-300x178.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.philstockworld.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Compound-May-13-2025-150x89.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 322px) 100vw, 322px\" \/>Our $700\/Month Portfolio began on Aug 25th, 2022 with $700 and each month (33 so far) we&#8217;ve added $700 and found some stocks to invest in. The idea WAS to get to $1M 30 years by making no less than 10% a year but, so far, pacing at 40.14% annual returns, we are on track to be over $1M in just 8 years!\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>That means you can invest $47,119 now (and we&#8217;ve only got $37,434 in net securities &#8211; the rest is CASH!!!) and pledge to put in $700\/month for the next 8 years and, if all goes well &#8211; you will have $1,107,908.43 by May 13th, 2033. NEWT and ET are new and our other trades had $37,000 of upside potential, though they realized $3,769 of it in the last 7 days so let&#8217;s call it ahead of schedule. Like the Money Talk Portfolio (also very volatile) the Butterfly Portfolio sells a lot of premium &#8211; so massive fluctuations in the VIX affect it greatly.\u00a0 Fortunately, those are rare yet, here we are.<\/p>\n<p>As I said before all this happened, the easy path would have been to cash out at S&amp;P 6,000 &#8211; which we KNEW was a top &#8211; but the idea was to demonstrate how we ride out a market collapse and recovery cycle &#8211; we just thought it would last more than two months!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Still, let&#8217;s not waste a lesson &#8211; go back and look at all those adjustments we made last month &#8211; THAT is why we added $375,000 and not just $185,000. So we sold the $12.50 puts for $3.88 and that&#8217;s net $8.62 so yes, please and we bought the stock for $12.57 &#8211; $1.50 (profit on short calls) is net $11 and we COULD sell the 2027 $10 calls for $1.75 to drop the net to $9.25 but I want to see next earnings.\u00a0 Last May 22nd, by the way, they did a $4.57 special dividend and in July they paid $1.15 &#8211; so who knows what these crazy MoFos will do next?\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/publish.finviz.com\/051425\/CMBTd104994239i.png\" alt=\"Finviz Chart\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>CROX &#8211; Wow! Fortunately, we have 50 $80\/110 spreads but UNfortunately, we sold 20 Sept $97.50 calls and CROX is STILL cheap at $120. <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">The 50 short June $110 calls ($61,000) AND the 20 short Sept $97.50 calls ($55,200) can be rolled to 70 short Jan $125 calls at $16.30 ($114,000) and we can cash in our 50 2027 $80 calls for $267,250 and buy 150 2027 $120 ($30)\/150 ($20) bull call spreads for $150,000<\/span><\/strong> so we are taking $115,050 off the table and we still have a $450,000 potential spread covering the short calls with a year advantage. That way, when the market tilts one way or the other &#8211; it&#8217;s easy to identify the best leg to change that puts you back on track. Notice KO is at the bottom of the uptrending channel at 21.5x earnings but very steady growth means next year it will be below 20x again and we&#8217;re willing to wait &#8211; ESPECIALLY if we can make $16,000 in 3 weeks selling short calls!\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>M &#8211; Lots of Retail in this portfolio!\u00a0 On track.<\/li>\n<li>OZK &#8211; On track.<\/li>\n<li>PFE &#8211; I&#8217;m not worried about the puts (make us buy PFE &#8211; sure!) and the short June calls are making us $7,050 so I think, mechanically, <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">we should buy back the 100 short 2027 $27 calls for $12,650<\/span><\/strong> as they are up $22,350 (63.5%) with 18 months to go so we&#8217;re really only risking about $750\/month while we see if PFE can snap back up over the triangle squeezy thingy that&#8217;s forming.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/publish.finviz.com\/051425\/PFEd112261591i.png\" alt=\"Finviz Chart\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li>SOFI &#8211; Can&#8217;t keep them down! <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">We sold the June $16 calls and I don&#8217;t think I&#8217;m worried but we&#8217;re up 88.3% so why risk it &#8211; let&#8217;s buy those back ($3,700)<\/span><\/strong>. Earnings were an 8% beat and guidance is for $6Bn against a $84.5Bn valuation so 14x and last year they made $5.85Bn and next year they say $6.7Bn (10X growth) so this whole sell-off is over UPS telling AMZN they were dropping 50% of their business which is a move I thought was BRILLIANT but people still don&#8217;t have faith in. Screw those idiots!\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">It&#8217;s a net $1,250 credit on the $180,000 spread that&#8217;s $60,000 in the money and that&#8217;s AFTER we already made $15,750 in our first month!
