I suggested long NVDA? That doesn’t sound like me but I’ll take your word for it. I wouldn’t short them (and they just got a new Government contract) but, in general, I think they are price gouging in a shortage and that will – ONE DAY – come to an end and then they will go back to being a low-margin chip company.

Anyway, so given my BRILLIANT!!! trade idea to go long NVDA with an aggressive $170/200 2027 bull call spread that is ALREADY in the money and will pay you the full $75,000 with an amazing profit – you are not satisfied and refuse to leave it alone? Does that sum it up?

If I were going to do anything, I’d sell 7 Jan $210 calls for $13.50 ($9,450) and, if you do that 5 times, that’s $47,250 IN ADDITION to your $75,000. You could take your $9,450 profits and use them (AFTER you make them, NOT BEFORE!) to roll your short 2027 calls higher but that’s just greed and you might end up rolling them higher and higher until NVDA does pull back and wipes out all the money you kept pumping into it (like the Peter Principle).

Our long premise on UPS was that “firing” Amazon as a customer was going to be great for them and now the turnaround is taking shape:

Just like Swampfox above with GFI – you are suffering from NOT DOING YOUR JOB!!! In this case, you were lucky as you had an aggressively bullish position and it popped on earning but you don’t feel lucky because you sold short calls and they made some money too – wah, wah…

2027 $89 calls are $19.75 and $90 calls are $13.25

The Jan $95 calls are $5.50 so I’d roll 2 of the 2027 $90s ($2,650) to 4 of the Jan $95s ($2,200) and sell 2 Jan $95 puts for $4.35 and then you have a proper income-producer and you can always roll short calls to 2x the 2027 $110s ($6.65) but you have a whole year to roll (and make money) IF YOU DO YOUR JOB!!!

OK, so GFI:

https://publish.finviz.com/102925/GFId060452152i.png

When a stock dips like that and there’s no obvious catalyst – you have to zoom out to the macros and see if anything changed. As we noted last week, Gold was simply making a technical retrace off $4,000 and nothing has FUNDAMENTALLY changed and it’s making a normal retrace and taking the miners with it (which is still silly as they’ll make a fortune on anything above last year’s $2,500 average selling price – people are just idiots).

So you have 40/30 2028 $3550 spreads as you long with some short puts and GFI is at $40, so the only problem here is you forgot to sell short-term calls (and you should have sold short-term puts to match, not 2027 puts).

You set up an aggressive bullish position and then you forgot to rent out the very expensive space you bought and doubled down on your bullishness by double-selling the puts instead of selling some short-term (3-month) calls.

How do you fix it – DO YOUR JOB!

Also, the longs will fluctuate plenty over 2 years. It’s not possible that you really lost money on the long and short calls, is it? That’s just a change in volatility but again, you are aggressively long so bad for you but just a curve in the road a month into a 2-year drive.

The Jan $40 calls are $3.50 and if you sell 10 of them that’s $3,500 and the Jan $38 puts and if you sell 10 of them that’s $4,000 and do you know what will happen to them in 80 days? ALL $7,000 of the premium you sell (but, for some reason didn’t sell so far) WILL EXPIRE WORTHLESS!!!

No matter which way the stock goes, 100% of the $7,000 premium WILL expire worthless and you have 8 quarters to sell $7,000 and that’s $56,000 you are SUPPOSED to be selling and, unless you have a horrific run of bad luck – you should make a substantial portion of that money as profit (net of what you pay the “winners”) and THAT is the ENTIRE PURPOSE of the long positions. You made a BET and you lost – you are not being the house – you are being one of the suckers we sell premium to and, just like 90% of those suckers – you are crying because your premium decayed.

So, my advice to you is: DON’T DO THAT!!!

LOL – not before I was exhausted, frustrated, and running late. So I planed to catch up this morning after getting some sleep. It was a good plan, I feel much better now and Fox is repeating the game I missed.

No spoilers please, I am trying not to find out what happened.

In response to my previous question on NVDA when it was 30 points lower, you had suggested a 12/27 bcs 170/200, 25/20 cts. NVDA just cleared 200 this morning. What would you suggest I roll the 20 contracts of 12/27 short 200s to ? RSI is flirting with 72, currently 62.Stock is up 5% just today. Can this price action be sustained?
Thanks in advance
