Interestingly, Trump said we don’t need your oil then 12 days later demanded Canada build another pipeline to increase oil shipments by a million more barrels per day. It is true as you stated, USA can not operate a significant portion of USA refineries without the higher sulphur content of heavy oil from Canada.

The dairy quota demanded by Trump himself, was a major win for USA farmers, “is a tariff-free quota”. It is false to say the tariff on dairy is 350% when USA farmers have never reached the quota limits he established in the five years since that the agreement was penned. I believe USA farmers have only filled 52% of the amount allowed in their biggest year and never paid a tariff.

Canadian lumber already pays a 14.5% tariff on all lumber products shipped to USA. Adding 25% will mean a 40% tariff on Canadian lumber which again USA requires. USA would have to build additional infrastructure that would take many years and 100’s of billions of dollars of investment to be able to produce the amount of lumber it gets from Canada. Phil is correct, Canada is making deals now to sell that lumber, oil, urainium, cobalt, nickel, copper to the rest of the world. To say purchasing these products required by USA is “ripping America off” with a non-existent 350% tariff, is false and damaging to our relationship.

Many Canadian service contracts issued to USA firms that “employ Americans”, including large construction and service projects across Canada are all being cancelled. These contracts total approximately $50 billion annually…very close to equalling total USA purchases annually. Canada is in the process of signing deals with free trade partners around the globe with the goal of eliminating most of the 400 Billion of purchases and services Canadians spent on American products. The loss to tourism is “huge” as Canadians are traveling else-where. Next year will be far worse as many could not cancel their deposited trips.

Canadians have followed the rules and NOT ILLEGALLY BREACHED THEIR CONTRACT OBLIGATIONS TO THE USA. Canadians personally feel hurt and betrayed by their best friends and relatives. When the fires in CA were out of control Canada sent “all” of their available water bombers without hesitation to help their neighbours. The goodwill of Canadians during 911 is well documented, filling their homes, as we did, with our American neighbours UNABLE TO FLY HOME at no charge to them. Who would charge a relative or neighbour in distress? Remember many Canadians have very strong ties with America as many of their family members originated from America and Many Canadians have lived in America, primarily in the winter. What is really sad is this is not just some deal Trump thinks he’s making. It’s peoples lives, trust and respect he’s carelessly destroying. Canada is open to negotiating but not at the end of a barrel. It will take years to repair the damage and loss of trust caused by this administration.

The above is the raw output after some back and forth between Quixote (who does not have web access) and Boaty as Q worked on putting together the morning report. I thought it would be very nice for reference.
